Driver Rushed To Trauma Center After Crashing Into Ravine In Shelton

A driver was seriously injured after losing control of their vehicle on a highway on-ramp and crashing into a ravine in Connecticut, fire officials said.

The crash happened in Fairfield County on Sunday, Dec. 31 just before 11:15 p.m., when a car left the Route 8 northbound Exit 13 on-ramp and plunged into a ravine 300 feet away from the roadway, according to the Shelton Fire Department.

Arriving first responders found that the driver had become pinned in the vehicle and used several extrication tools and stabilization struts to get them out of the car, which took around 20 minutes in total.

The driver was later taken to a nearby trauma facility to be treated for serious injuries, fire officials said. State Police are now investigating the cause of the crash.
